im an Ex and soon to be again carp angler, so i know what normal carp eat, in fact when i had my tropical tank i used to feed them my trout pellets which they grew massive on so...... is there any reason i cant feed koi on them and this also goes for boilies

i might give them ago, a good betain pellet should do them good aswell as some high quality boilies i used to use some boilies that smelt that good i have to fight with myself not to em
I am also an ex Carp Fisher and have been through the whole trout pellet vs. Carp pellet thing. We came to the eventual conclusion that trout pellets were/are too high in oil content for Carp. I would expect the same applies to koi so would not use them.
Others may not see a problem with them, it's a personal choice.
just a note to remember some boilies and carp/trout pellets contain plastic too.
Trout pellets and foods used on fish farms are designed to grow the fish as quick as feasibly possible but as most will be used in the food industry it doesnt matter that these foods also tend to reduce the life of the fish by quite alot.
i must admit, i was a very keen carp angler for going on 10 years and have never heard anything about some of these problems with pellets and boilies.
the welfare of the carp is a hugh priority to most companies making bait and tbh i dont think that people who own these fisheries and pay massive amounts of money for lets say 30lb+ mirror would let anglers use baits that will shorten their life
i could understand if a kois body wasnt able to handle these sorts of food as from what ive read koi are alot more finicky than mirror/common
Have a look at the body shape on a 30 or 40lb Koi (there will be a few that size at the South East show) and compare it with that of a Common carp of similar weight.
you cant really compare the 2, they will have lived totally different lives, living conditions and food among other things would be totally different and it well known carp will vary on size and shape depending on the conditions of were they have been
you asked us an opinion about foods and wether its ok to feed them to your koi.
we answered your question to the best of our abilities. and gave explinations, thats all we can do.
at the end of the day if you choose to feed these foods to your koi or not will be entirely your own decision. what ever you choose to feed let hope your koi grow big and healthy.
i thought this was a discussion board???? thats what i was having!! whats the point in a forum if when a thread question is answered that thread stops? i wasn't having ago at anyone just a discussion and forwarding my own thoughts
