The point I was trying to make was that common carp have increased in weight massively in the last 30 or so years since the introduction of high protein foods into their diet, but not necessarily with the benefit of overall shape,they have simply got fatter rather than benefiting from overall growth.

For a Koi; Body shape is everything and the risk is that feeding foods that are not sympathetic to this could lead to dumpy fish.

Now my take is, and it is only my take; is that when fish are younger they can benefit from a higher protein diet particularly at higher water temps but as they get older and natural growth slows down their diet needs to reflect this.

i see your point, so would you suggest more natural foods such as bloodworm as well as koi carp specific foods once they start to slow in growth?
