Smelly Koi Food

Firstly a big Hi to all.MY question is Have any of you noticed that a lot of brands of koi pellets&sticks seem to have an odd chemical and not very appetising smell to them.THE reason I ask is my fish seem to spit out and leave a lot of them but if I feed mealworms they,re gone in seconds.Pond temp is about 10 deg and all perameters good apart from lovely green haze which my fish prefer to gin clear water. Hello again.The foods I,ve tried are yamitsu(kockney koi) peaches&cream,show&grow&EA wheatgerm+kusuri wheatgerm,the latter 2 they won,t eat at all.This afternoon they were gomping down a newly hatched batch of tadpoles they found before I had chance to rescue them,I,d already put 3 lots of spawn in the plant filter,which makes me suspect the food not the temp of water .I,m in worcester and temp has been between 10-12 deg for past 3 weeks. ive got ea food here , i cant smell anything ??? fish will choose bugs and stuff over pellet , any day of the week .

have you tried medi koi garlic wheatgerm ?

mine ent feeding great yet, just put a bit in. or every other day to start. u need to build it up, so the filter will cope, unless u are heated.

Hi again sorry about wait been having radiotherapy,makes me sleep alot.So back to question,Have tried medikoi and found it to be good food also kusuri premium which they loved they also like hikari foods,but after being diagnosed with cancer and so unable to work I,m finding these foods abit pricey,so decided to try afew new brands of which kk food was recomended to me as formulated for english temperatures.My pond is unheated but is situated between conservatory and high fence and surrounded by shrubs and picket fence that keep off windchill ,it is completly in ground not raised and so tends to stay warmer as mentioned earlier 10 -12 degrees last 3 weeks. They will eat the kk food but I noticed the chemical smell to it wich doesn,t seem right both packs were well in date and bought from reputable dealer it just doesn,t smell nice as medikoi or kusuri &hikari have that nice fishmeal smell to it. I,ve kept these koi now for about 4 years so I know their habits quite well most of them are greedy pigs . thanks ghostie dave
