Thanks terry,

I am into fishing but have a decent array of koi in my pond and although im probably not any where near some peoples standards on here I was just interested in thinking about how to get the carps metabolism working quicker in cold dire conditions? Getting them to feed etc.

So is koi clay available in standard koi supply shops?

Thanks

the only way you can get any koi to feed better is heat the water. all koi will stop feeding at a temp lower then about 10c. get temp to above this and your koi will feed no worries. this is the only way you can get them to feed and adding clay lower then 10c will not even get them to feed. mark

most reputable koi dealerships will sell pond clay...however as mark said it wont make em feed below 10c as there metabolism cannot process the food and to be honest if you was in your garden naked at below 10c i very much doubt you'd be interested in food and would concentrate on conserving energy by not moving and huddling up

Thanks for the info guys I'm finding it so interesting.

So the warmer the water temperature (within reason) the more they want to feed?
How about weight? How do the guys in japan get their fish to such sizes? Are there certain feeds that they use? Are the clays involved as a main dietry requirement?

Many thanks for your thoughts.
