Koi are omnivorous, I'm not suggesting that there aren't some foods better than others, but it's not just about food, it's about water conditions. I'd also suggest a good air pump which increases the oxygen content of the water has a lot to do with activity and growth.
There's a lot of koi foods out there with all sorts of claims on the front of the packs. It's an idea to ignore those and read and compare the list of contents on the back with other foods of a variety of different prices.

Everyone has there particular favorites when it comes to food.
Ive been trialling something new with my growing on babes that seems to be working but its long term results that are important.
Personally I dont feed high protein food unless the conditions are right, in my book thats with water temps over 22 - 23C, and for fish that are under 3 years.
Saki Hikari would be great but is no longer affordable, Probites is good and best part of half the price, Takazumi slightly cheaper than probites and good.
Main pond I'm lightly feeding Takazumi Vital at the moment and they are happy with it.
Like you I am feeding Takazumi Vital at the moment having used Saki Hikari amongst others in the past, have you tried the Yugen version that they produce?
I'm thinking about getting some in but as it's only fed for 5 days at a time will there be a noticeable difference in the koi. At that price I really want to see some improvement.
Don't be disappointed and certainly please dont be put off giving it a go for yourself. Fish are fickle creatures and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another, Ive got a Kilos or so left and I will be giving them another session when I pick up the temps.
I had the same "ok" results from yugen too Dave, but will give it another go as I too have some left and have heard good results from others who have tried it.
