Hi some advice please. My in-pond pump (the only filter connected pump) seems to have stopped. I am no great koi keeper but have some mixed fish(incl Koi) in my pond which is 8' by 5' by 4' deep in the ground. It is not heated and so they have not been fed for a couple of months and all the fish are very quiet down at the bottom. There are airstones at the top of the pond so they are getting some oxygenation.
My question is do I have to go in now and sort this out or can I wait a few days? My concern is the stress impact on the fish as they are very dormant right now given the cold/ snow. It was working on Sunday btw.

Assuming you have checked the power supply and fuse to the pump I would have the pump out to check the impeller as they can become jammed with dying back blanket weed ect
Thanks mate. I'm pretty sure thats what the problem is as the air is on the same circuit. The issue is; to do it today or wait. Obviously pulling the pump out will stir things up a bit and stress the fish. Waiting till the are a tad more active will not be as stressful but will the water be shot by then? Which is the lesser of 2 evils?

hi i would of thought its best to fix the problem before your bio filter starts to die off
No point in putting this job off, it's something that needs sorting sooner rather than later. Just make sure the power is off and isolated when you start messing about getting the pump out.
Thanks for your help . Pump pulled out, cleaned and fixed. Fish did not seem that bothered. New problem is the water not getting to the filter still. Think have ice in one of my pipes. I think I know which one. Back at work for now. Out with a torch later.....
