Valterra slide valves are ok but they will let by over time as seals deteriorate. If you can, go for a ball valve, it may cost more but in the long term if anything happened you can 100% close off the water to filter system.

Also pipework from bottom drain doesnt have to be pressure pipe it can be plain 110mm solvent weld pipe, if you use this instead then you will need some reducers to go from 4" to 110mm as ball valves are 4" fittings or pressure pipe will go straight in without them. There isnt a great deal of difference in price, decission is yours really.

Hiya

The pain about 4" BVs is as well as the cost they are seriously big but do provide a way of ensuring you can fully stem the flow.

The fall back for isolating the water is the good old pipe stopper. The "emergency box of bits " in your filter sheds should contain one.
