Default Investment and a little effort pays off

Hi
My pond though relatively new (Sept 11) is reaping the benefits of a little extra investment and effort.

Though we are having some cold temperatures and more recently snow, the temperature has not dropped below 7c. Its an unheated pond but insulated with Kingspan and just over 6ft deep. The pond is also covered with 25mm polycarb. Tonight the temp is sitting at 8.1 and the fish are active. They are spending lots of time looking out of the pond's window.

I am so glad I followed the advice of others on here, it certainly has paid dividends.

Hi Mark

I'm thinking that the sheltered position, a decent amount of the pond being below ground level and a decent cover all contibute.

With your filters being inside Koi Cottage I guess they pick up a little warmth from the ambient air temps in there?

Whats for sure is that as a package it's effective.

Bet you are even more pleased that you have a window now that the covers are on.

Dave

Hi Dave
The position must help along with the depth of the pond. The depth was certainly worth the extra effort and the extra cost well worth it.

The filters are very nicely tucked away in the Koi Cottage. Though some idiot has dug a blooming great hole in the floor now, making it rather draughty.

Extremely pleased with the window, the light unit you recommended does a great job of illuminating the glass. Its like having a 3D TV in the garden!!

Certainly worth it all, though I am sure everyone knows what I mean during the build you reach a plateau where you just think its never going to get finished.
