I make no claims of having any expertise in water quality. But do know water that's fit for human consumption isn't necessarily good for fish.

Hiya Limey.

The thing that springs to mind is, would one want to remove all bacteria?

Do these gizmos require you to pressurise water in a cylinder to get it to go through the 0.1 micron ceramic filter?

Dave
They are assembled into stainless or plastic housings in either a gravity fed or pressurised system..they have threaded mounts glued to them which screw into the housings..Commonly they have a inner carbon rod as well to remove chlorine and heavy metals..

The ones which I am aware require a minimum pressure of 0.5bar, but they restrict the water flow to 2-3 litres/min and are only suitable for domestic point of use situations. The main purpose of the ceramic is to kill bacteria and remove sediment in the water...some ceramic's are impregnated with silver in them to help kill bacteria.
The porous ceramic section will remove 99.999% of all particles above one micron in size, including dirt, rust, sediment, harmful bacteria, parasites and cysts.

Interesting stuff so off the wall with a NON scientific brain....

Have seen these for hikers and the like - dip cup into river water push the plunger and voila drinkable water - can have a carbon purifier too ?

So... if 3 ltrs a minute 30 gals an hour... could their be an adaption to use and you get filtered water and RO effect all in one? Saves pre filtering cylinders and the membranes... or replace the RO membranes wiuth the ceramic kind maybe in some way?

As was said would we want in effect sterile water but couldn't it be a bit of both? Part not going through the ceramic....

Maybe totally impractical and a non started but thought I would just throw it out there anyway.

Hiya Dave

More of the same please, great to see someone thinking outside the box.

In short; Nope. But good idea.

To get you thinking - How would they cope with seawater ?

Kind regards

Need to take a bucket down to clacton where I used to wear a red jacket and collect some to expermnet on
