For submersibles, I'd never choose anything other than Oase. I had a 5,000 for ten years and only this year changed to an 8,500 because I wanted to re-commission the waterfall which it feeds on a bypass. The 5,000 is presently being used again as I stopped running the waterfall when the temperature dropped, it's still going strong.

Don't quite understand what you mean by with a retro bottom drain either on top of the bottom drain or next to it

But there's more intelligent people than me on here.

ive got a retro drain so im looking for a pump i can put in my pond, then run a pipe to the drain which will be in the centre with the pipe coming from the pump to the bottom drain so the only suction is going through the drain and not the pump if you see

I still can't get my head round this. Have you already got a bottom drain in your pool and to what is it connected?

Hiya

Still confused sorry..

But I take it you dont have a bottom drain at the moment?

I'd agree with DH, in terms of a submersible dirty water situation Oase would be my pump of choice. The Superfish range are cheaper but the impellers limit their ability to deal with leaves, snails etc!

I think the retro bottom drain Terry is referring to is the one that has a pipe to a submersible pump that feeds the filter. as opposed to the water going straight into the pump via its perforated case. If I am right I too would recommend Oase pumps for the job. I don't think it makes to much difference where the pump is in the pond. But to be honest I wouldn't bother with a retro drain I don't think they work that well and are just another obstruction in the pond.
