Hi Ned
Yeah, yeah it's a newly bought mini shovel. Its so far only been used as a break proof dustpan. Back from a work trip to Frankfurt late Tuesday so I shall be spending Wednesday working on the tank area.

When I finished the digging out my pond I vowed never to dig another hole. Now spent two days digging out my sunken bath or koi growing on tank. 106 bags of soil to dispose of so far. Not far from completing dig number two think another 30-40 bags left which hopefully will finish tomorrow
Ordered a bottom drain today, think the way to go is build it like a mini pond.
Thanks Dave and Gazzza, finished the digging today. A grand total of 132 bags of soil which are piled up in our sideway. Shall have get them shifted fairly quickly.
Ordered a 3'' aerated Spinflow bottom drain which I was hoping would arrive today annoyingly it has not even been dispatched.
The builders/window fitters despite their promises did not finish today and are coming back Weds. So guess who is spending the day working on the tank!
Back on the growing on tank project now, the rebuild of the lounge is finished. With the new french doors we can now view the fish though the pond window. Spent a couple of weeks taking a back seat from diy. But now back on the tank build.
Tonight I glued up the bottom drain pipework and I am hoping to cement the drain in tomorrow and maybe get the base down.
Found a cheap plastic pipe supplier online for 4'' pipe fittings called Plastic Express. A 4'' 90 right angle costs £5.95 but delivery charge is £10.85. If you are ordering a few bits it works out good value.
Message to Ned, please note I included the shovel in the pic and hope you approve as it now shows wear and tear!!!
Well its all systems go now, cemented the drains in and laid the base today. Put a damp proof membrane in which will go right to the floor level,so this should stop the floor from getting damp. My back certainly knows it has done too much today. It was not possible to put a wheelbarrow inside so had carry the cement in a plastic storage type box. The last bit of laying the cement meant hanging over the edge of the hole, face down into the cement. Which could have ended badly!
I thoughly recommend getting someone else to lay the cement, even for such a relatively small area. My back is in total agreement with this statement.
Next up is to put in the overflow pipe, this needs to go under the floor before the blocks go up. I have an overflow on the pond and a trickle feed of water going in. The plan is the same for the tank as it works really well on the pond.
Still wouldnt mind popping round sometime soon if thats still ok Gazza.
