Reputation Level: | Goldfish food the same as koi food? Hi guys I'm new to the forum.
My first post and question.
Is koi food and different to goldish food?
If so, can anyone explain?
Where I live, koi food is alot rarer than goldfish good...
Not to mention being way over priced in this country.
Thanks in advance |

You may get some conflicting advice about feeding on here, but "none of it will be wrong."
People will express their own opinions based on their own experience.
Koi are omnivorous, they'll eat practically anything, including peas, sweetcorn, boiled egg, even Marmite toast!
Koi food is specifically designed to give them a balanced diet.
But many of us supplement this in the summer months when they are eating a lot with other food.
They will eat goldfish food, but it's false economy, as it's very light and you'll have to feed them a lot, so as koi food is more substantial you won't be saving any money.
You haven't said in which country you are, but here in the UK, I buy my food on line.
But I too think koi food is often over-priced. Such is the nature of the hobby

Thanks for the reply
I'm from Sydney Australia.
Popularity of koi isn't that strong here at all in comparison to other countries like United states for e.g
(I had never seen anyone sell a Chagoi or Butterfly/ghost Koi here, including the largest and oldest koi farm).
So in your opinion, koi food has more supplements even though they are in the identical granular form?
Online on eBay appear to be much cheaper.
products pricing from the aquarium here are over the roof. |

yeah its organic food and we do have very strict customs in comparison to the rest of the world...
(which is silly because, yet... for a supposed clean country...we have a lot of illegal hand guns on the streets from somewhere and a lot of drivebys)
anyways..
i appreciate your support |

i appreciate your support | what you could do if you do buy off ebay is tell the seller not to put fish food on the custums label then your get away with it lol.

products pricing from the aquarium here are over the roof. | You'd be advised to memorise the ingredients in the goldfish food, the percentages and particularly the weight, then compare it with koi food in an aquarist's shops, then do the maths.
Also check if their are any on-line sellers in Australia, to avoid the customs problem.

Even though i am in the Uk i am a member of the Australian koi forum Australian Koi Forum - Index
the guys and girls on their Bradley Bradley and Aaron, Bhindi and few others (some of them also members on here) really know their stuff.
its easy to reccomend to you the the best and cheapest places to buy food from but these guys and girls would be able to direct you alot better with the area of Australia that you are from. you never know they might even be able to go halves with you on buying more for less if you know what i mean.
please dont mistake this advice for me try to get you not to post on this forum, heaven forbid but some of us pride ouselves on here with giving some of the best and honest advice that we can and if we cant, putting you on or helping you find somebody that can.

heya
sounds good
i should probably post on that forum to ask for a good deal.
yeah i usually sign up to UK and US forums as Aust is always limited to things, less population and any type of hobby known to man...is just simply very miniscule in comparison to other commonwealth countries.
thanks for your help |
