Got chucked out of the house this evening as other half is having a girly night in - so I’m relegated to the pond sheds; real hardship.
Been neglecting the water tests just a little over the last couple of weeks, but had time on my hands..
PH in growing on tank 6.6, humm - KH nil. Ammonia is OK - so just caught things in time.
Now I have no excuse, things are nice, warm and dry in the shed, straight complacency. Message from this is that for those of you in soft water areas worth a little check on you KH and pH through the "winter" months.

Hi Dave
Well Dave why has it got to that level? is it Straight RO and not mixing? How do you measure a nil KH would it that the water go's straight to yellow?

There is a lean mix going in there, just slightly too lean
When the KH gets low you double the sample size to see if you get blue with a drop, if you don't then double it again..
The ratio of KH and GH in my supply is such that mixing isn't really the ideal solution - One of the tasks for 2012 is to change tack and use a pH controller and bicarb dosing to achieve the parameters I want - but that's another story.

Hi Dave
Yes I have seen a PH Controller set up and not to expensive and looks like it works well. with Mine Now the PH 7.1 and the Kh is 2 . Kh it's 5mil and it turns on the second drop this is where I am going to try and hold it if possible.
