I presume that the vent pipe is to keep levels in veggie filter the same as the pond. How are doing the flow through the bog ? you don`t want to create or allow stagnant anaerobic conditions, although I only run my veggie filter during the growing season, to prevent chilling my heated pond. I remove all plants each spring for a good clean out of any sludge, repot, etc.
P.S. Be careful with dry stone wall corners/edges Koi will injure themselves !

cheers had not thought of that.
is there anything wrong in 2" vent pipe to bottom of bog, water rising through bog draining via pair of 2" outflow pipes to settling tank to bio filter or directly to sieve.

Hiya
Yes.
Apt that you describe it as a "bog" because thats what it would become with settlement occuring there.
thanks guys going to put strip of plastic, 4" tall accross pond to divide, will do blockwork up to2" from top, lay liner, mastic plastic strip to liner so rides above water by 2" this should give illusion of continue water, making pond look bigger.
NOW HOW DO YOU GUYS SET UP YOUR BOG FILTERS, WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION WATER COMES IN BELOW, FILTERED THROUGH TO TOP, DRAINED OFF, TO SETTLEMENT TANK AND WATER RE-DIRECTED BACK TO POND OR UV
Yea, keep a flow so that no dead spots can cause anaerobic problems. My plants are set in 8 perforated trays/baskets in the flow of a stream. You will need to flush sediments regular, Vortex would be good for this. I would then flow through all your filters in normal way, (as any disturbance in bog will cause mud/fines). Only then pump back clean water to pond via U/V if you need too, I usually bypass my U/V as the plants do the job better!
Your plans seem quite elaborate - I`m not quite clear as to exact flow paths that might occur. Avoid any dead spots or build up of sediment, if you can drop sludge out of suspension before feeding into the veggie so much the better. I pass everything through a 30" Vortex (takes out Heavies), that could cuase blockages, then brushes (Collects lots of Floating pooh etc.) that you don`t want fermenting anywhere.
