I usually take it off during day as im heated at 16-18 yes its like a turkish bath out there ha ha but the fish are really skittish even when i feed them they wait till ive gone and even when ive gone i watch from bedroom window they come up then fly off but before they would feed from my hand. any thoughts?

Could just be the time of year? Or probably, because they're now covered up for much of the time, when you remove the cover for feeding, they become 'nervous' as they're not used to seeing as much of as they would in the summer - just my thoughts anyway

Thanks Miles thats what i was thinking but it freaks you and you start worrying about the fish one minute there eating out of your hand next they wont eat till you have gone
As Mile's says, your more than likely spooking them with the covers, rather than removing them could you not just lift them up and prop them, it may help.

Hi Al the cover is that blue swimming pool cover so its just laid on top of the water even when i just fold it back its the same. cheers
I’d be thinking that the fish maybe don’t like the cover floating on the water surface. They go up and bang their heads and every time the wind blows there are unnatural shadows and vibrations when the cover moves…. I’m not a fish so can’t say for sure but just my thoughts..

They may well get used to it.
