Could just be the time of year? Or probably, because they're now covered up for much of the time, when you remove the cover for feeding, they become 'nervous' as they're not used to seeing as much of as they would in the summer - just my thoughts anyway

As Mile's says, your more than likely spooking them with the covers, rather than removing them could you not just lift them up and prop them, it may help.

Hi Gaz

I’d be thinking that the fish maybe don’t like the cover floating on the water surface. They go up and bang their heads and every time the wind blows there are unnatural shadows and vibrations when the cover moves…. I’m not a fish so can’t say for sure but just my thoughts..

They may well get used to it.

Dave
