i turned off my UV about 2 weeks back as now the canopy is done there is very little direct sunlight hitting the water
this weekend i boarded the canopy out and recovered it so i thought i might as well give it a clean
i have a spare 10,000l pump in the shed at the min which i bought for my QT tank which isnt up atm so i put a filter bag on the end of it and dropped it in the pond, i was brushing off the shelf pushing all the crap to the extra filter (works really well with the bag) when i noticed like silky green strands on the liner, is this blanket weed? should i turn the UV back on, it isnt causing any probs just need to know

hi dont know if this helps but algae can grow in winter time aswell (even under ice.) Fresh Watercress plants with the roots still on from veg store will help as it sucks up nutrients starving the algae just throw in some clumps...
water pennyworth is also good as this plant can still grow in and under ice but it can be hard to control .. maybe leaving the uv on will also help..
hope this helps you
cheers, ill see how it goes but whats the best way to kill it off, i already have a load of snails in there
you could use a toilet brush (new one lol) for small growths its beats getting your hands mucky. extract of barley straw is a product i saw online and is relatively cheap and a natural product so wont harm your fish or plants...
Its a right onld pain is BW, I used CBA at the recommended dose and it killed the BW, but I was not happy with the after effects, constant peeling of the dead stuff of the walls all summer and no growth of algae at all, next time it happens I am going to try an experiment and stop feeding to see if the fish sort it out naturally. :-) I have turned my UV off at end of sept and water went a nice green and is not clearing up of its own accord may not end up 'gin' clear put will do the fish the world of good.
