Default Size of polycarbonate?

Hi, I am about to purchase 5 sheets of clear polycarbonate to use as a cover for my pond.

I would just like to know if it is worth paying more for 16mm or even 25mm or will 10mm be sufficient?

Unheated 2300 gallon pond if that helps.

Thanks

James

If you are unheated then I would go for 10mm.

Only real need to go thicker is if you are heated and then really need to try and keep the heat loss down.

does the 10mm bow in the middle at all if unsupported by timbers?

i just 9mm Chinese hard wood ply over my canopy and that took some additional noggins to stop it sagging, was a hell of a lot cheaper than the poly stuff as well

Depends how wide, and long the sheets are and how much snow is on it!

But yes it would need to be on a timber support

25mm is what i use works well for me worth that bit extra me thinks , i also don't heat , as im south facing i angle it up like a cold frame to maximise the winter sun's rays, thats if there is any sunshine
