hi Tj0754
filtters are tricky they are so many best thing to do is have a look at peoples set ups near you and also how deep your pockets are but take your time
What filters indeed is a good question but filters are a personal thing as it can all depend on your lifestyle and also what you are looking to do with the pond.
My advice to you would be to get out and see as many set ups as you can and see how filters work and how they clean them and how long the maintenance takes.
Where are you as i am sure there is some guys close to you that will be willing to show you their set ups
I'm in Manchester, I don't no weather to go with 2 nexus 310 and a bead or something on 1 or cl4 with a seive and 1 nexus Eric's are out of question to expensive and none second hand
I'd too recommend looking at a few and then asking questions.
When I was about to build mine, every pool I visited the pool owner said there was something about their's that if they built it again, they'd change in some way or other.
As has been said, filters are subjective. Everything has a cost and a koi pool should be looked at as a long term investment. The design again is a personal choice but with some installations if you want to sell your house ten years down the line, you might have to pay to fill it in before you can sell. Non koi loving parents with small children, would look in horror at most deep pools in the garden.

An 8,000 gallon pond is a big bucks project, worth spending time visiting a few set ups of similar size.
What is "Reasonable" clarity to one Guy is "Pea Soup" to another and "Gin Clear" to a third.
And take comments of Nil Ammonia and Nil Nitrite whilst feeding 1KG+ a day with a pinch of salt..
Filters; its all down to budget and lifestyle but end of the day 8,000gallons does need a fair amount of filtration, but it has to be a choice that you are comfortable with and that’s matched to your aspirations stock wise.
