Default Winter Flushing

Hi chums.

Looking ahead, I've been considering what to do regarding the flushing of my bead filter, during the winter months. Can anyone say how often I should give it a flush?

Cheers...Freddy.

I guess it's also important to agitate the beads to stop them 'setting'

At least once, preferrably twice a day in the summer, once a day in the winter.

Does depend on your stock levels though

A Bead does a good job in filtering solids from the water, but ask yourself where do these go?

Dave, you were being serious about the flushing?
And I don't quite see what you're getting at with the following....

There are always solids, but I always figured that a certain amount has to be accepted. Apart from that, I was led to believe that a certain amount of good bacteria is washed away during this process, not so?
I've just checked the handbook, and it suggests that it can be flushed once every 2-3weeks during winter. I was however a little surprised to see that during the summer months it suggests flushing 2-3 times a week. For some reason I always had it in my head that it was once a week, ah well, live and learn.

Cheers...Freddy.

Freddy when you back wash your bead filer what does the water look like, this should tell you if it needs more flushing or not. Knowing that youonly have 5 fish or I'm sure your water looks ok. Also Dave you say about solids but does the sieve not take out most of these.
