Reputation Level: | solar heaters like most people i suspect i hate paying massive electric bill and this is what put me off the usual pond heaters.
ive been looking at a solar heater, their mainly made and used for pools but i see no reason why it cant work on a pond.
do any of you guys use one and what do ya think of them, ive seen them on ebays brand new for just over £100 |

I'm going to hazard a guess and say that you'll maybe need 1kwh for every 1,000 gallons. Without knowing what the output is of the one you're looking at, then it's impossible to say if it will be any good. However, decent solar panels don't usually come cheap. I'm certainly no expert, but I'd imagine you'd need to make quite an investment for it to be worthwhile AND effective.
Cheers...Freddy.

Reputation Level: | yea i did abit of reading about them, the best 1 for me is around £200 and should heat 9000l (2000gallon) i have a fair bit less than that so.....
i dont think £200 is bad considering how much it would cost to use a normal heater |

Reputation Level: | Hi again.
When you say "heat", are we talking about a level at which the KOI can still be fed? OR, are we talking just maintaining a relatively low temperature?

Reputation Level: | well im assuming there a way to control what temp you let it heat to, basically im just think about using it to keep the freeze away during the winter |

Like I said, I'm no expert, so I'd be interested to know how this pans out. Does the advert say what the output is?

Reputation Level: | Hmm, it doesn't state what the output is. I'd be wary, looks like a gimmick.
