Default Steady Progress

The 4/5 inch koi I bought in April, have maintained rapid growth, they are all now over 9 inches.
They’re extremely active and veracious feeders. I feed ‘em little and often and they clear the lot within minutes. I put this down to excellent water quality and my new Oase AquaOxy 1000 air pump.
Given that I took “pot luck” with an assortment from Mitchkoi, “sight unseen” I’m pleased with what I got for less than a tenner each. From my limited knowledge I'd say there are, a nice Shusui, a gin-rin kohaku, three nice sankes, a couple of them tancho, one gin-rin, a ki-utsuri, a kujyaku, a ki-bekko, a koromo of some sort (jury’s out on that one as its colouring is very dark. Plus a couple of “kipper kohakus” (very orange). So I can't really complain. I'm well pleased with the selection, none are likely to be "stars," but koi are just a small part of the interest in our garden.
Before I took this photo, I had to move to one side nearly two dozen big ceramic pots with various plants and shrubs in them which are "my wife's" which are on our patio in front of me.

I guess when they are older, I'll have to tell them they're Israeli and not Japanese, I hope it doesn't come too much of a shock to them.

The background noise is the air pump in the filter room, the door's open. The camera wouldn't have picked it up if it were shut, it has a really sensitive microphone.

This is a close up but not very good, too much light for this liittle Lumix digital camera. I've changed my "anti-heron net" for a smaller mesh, "pergola wisteria autumn leaf catcher."

Your water certainly does look nice and clear there DHR; I too had a gin-rin Kohaku from Mitchkoi in March and it's grown very well this summer. I also bought from them a Chagoi in June, so a bit smaller, but catching up well

Hi D/R.

I have to say they really DO look active, much more so than mine. Looks to me like you got your moneys-worth. For less than a 'tenner' each, you did good

Cheers...Freddy.

Hi, Freddie,

I put the activity down to the increased oxygen due to the new air blower. One might say they are "burning very brightly."

I'm hoping I don't get a *"Nexus six, Roy Batty" situation with them because of this.

* Err.. You have to be familiar with the film "Blade Runner" to appreciate this.

Blade Runner, a wonderful movie, although I don't recall that particular line

Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer) was one of the Nexus Six replicants on the run that Deckard was sent to kill. They possessed great physical power, but at the expense of a short lifespan.

When I see my fish dashing about I'm reminded of the scene between Roy and Tyrell where he says; "The light that burns twice as bright, burns half as long and you have burned very, very, brightly Roy."
