O.K. fella's Im whats known in the trade as UP A CREEK without a paddle! my water is in the new pond not via a purifier im affraid to say 1000 gals and I need to get this water to a good quality and quick, I've added a sachet of bacteria from nishikoi straight to the pond intend to repeat this in a week but this time to the water flow of my filter, right heres my problem I only have the ONE filter at the moment!I have purchased another but some ebayer to be unamed says he has posted it, so he says! it has not turned up and he has now gone off on holiday and cannot track the item ordered, what a ****! so with this one filter i have to keep my koi in top health whilst there in there temp home and i also need to build up the bacteria in the new home hence UP $41t CREEK, so what to do? I've currently got a submersible in there moving the water about but thats it! dont know what to do for the best? do I put them in or not? and I've had good results with salt added before now but is this best added at spring to aid them coming out of hibernation or add it now to aid the stress levels caused and to add valuable mucus, slime to prevent new problem that a new pond cant create " new pond syndrome" is all i need to top things off, sorry to sound negative chaps but these are stressfull times I just want the best for my fish, I know you all understand

slow down mate. what is the actual crisis right now? you say you have built a new 1000g pond? (i hope you remembered to fit a bottom drain?). You have filled the pond (?) and have the filter running but without any fish in there.?
you say you " need to get this water to a good quality and quick " , well, it's not like making a cup of coffee. Ponds take a VERY long time to mature. your water (out of the tap?) should be of perfectly good quality after passing through your water purifier(?) and then allowing it to run through the system with plenty of air (?), but you bacteria will never get going until there is some food for them. It is usually helpful to put a couple of fish in there after a few days to get some Ammonia into the filters so that the bacteria can start munching on it. Another thing they (bacteria) need is water with a decent kH level, so adding some clay or Bicarb would also help, as would a bit of heat and covering the filters (bacteria do it in the dark!).
So unless you have your current stock of koi sat around in buckets and it is a matter of life or death I would take my time and let things develop slowly.
This might give you some time to sort out your eBay issues so you can get your filters set up properly.
without any further details about your pond/system you will struggle to get any specific advice on here, maybe you have a local Koi Club or BKKS Section which you could join and seek advice from the members their, maybe somebody local to you who could pop in and give you some hands on advice.
for now I don't think you need to be panicking, unless there is something you aren't telling us?
good luck with the filter. keep us posted with the pond progress, and please give us a little more info about it.
You will probably get a better response if you edit out the expletives from your post - we all understand how frustrating keeping Koi can be.
If the parameters are Ok in the temporary set up then the filters you have on there will be able to cope on the new set up, certainly as a temporary measure.
How much stock have you got to deal with?
What sort of filter were you looking at?
The media in any new filter is going to take 2 to 3 months as a minimum to get anywhere near able to deal with toxins from the fish and bottom line is that at this time of year you just aren’t gonna get anything going bacteria wise in new media until May next year and filter start is only any good if there is something for the bacteria to feed on.
I have edited this post did not intend to offend anyone and hope to prove a valid member of this site so it will be toned down, Sorry to anyone that found it offensive
Russ,
I have'nt used purified water! slap on the wrist, I havent got a bottom drain! again slap on the wrist! but there is a reason, its not my property and landlord was good enough to let me have pond but no major digging! I agreed.
So what we have is one pond with a load of water in it thats only good for drinking and my fish are in a perfect fibre glass pond with qaulity water but its not deep enough for the winter and i will loose them if we have winter like last year. I understand im not going to get any where near the bacteria i need before winter but what i was trying to ask you lovely people on here is can i do anything to (a) speed anything up to make it relatively safe to put my fish in (b) will adding salt or something else help with stress levels
(c) do i do it now rather than later as tempreture is on my side.
I'm not completely panic tricken could just do with knowing has anyone got any knowledge that could help!
As long as you don't go made and you have a filter on the new pond and have the temporary system is OK then i am sure you can add a few fish at a time and could you add some of the media from the temporary set up onto the new pond or even the filter.
