Question winter uv

hi guys i would like some advice on the use of the uv in winter.... my pond is 2700 gals and i have a yamitsu 55 w uv is the uv needed thou the winter as its colder im thinking the algae wont grow when its cold ..or.. would i benifit from the germicidal side of the uv by leaving it on... if not might as well turn it off in the cold and save electric and bulb life ..... ?

Hi Ryhno,

You can turn the UV off during winter and even in the summer as some ponds don't need the UV on all the time and most of the bulbs only last 6 months anyway.

ok thanks i will think about bypassing it for the winter maybe turn it off at the end of september .... once again thanks gazza

If you bypass it, make sure there is no water left in it.

You dont want if freezing up and popping the quartz tube.

Yes i would just keep it running but turn off the electricity to it over winter.
