My pond has been up and running for a few months now. Naturally, I have been monitoring my parameters. After a while I thought it was time to measure my Nitrate level which was 40ppm. "Good" I thought, "the filter is starting to kick in by converting Ammonia >-->Nitrite>-->Nitrate". I'm now at the stage where blanket weed has become a problem, and to treat this I've used Cloverleaf Answer. Anyway, just out of interest I thought it might be a good idea to test my tap water for Nitrate. I was quite surprised to find that it was exactly the same, at 40ppm. As I can't dilute my pond water, does this mean that blanket weed is always going to be a problem?
Cheers...Freddy.

Mine is similar to yours out of the tap but think positive - to keep the pond at this is good going. Are you running a veggie filter?
There are other bits in the water that BW like, phosphate being one You may find that after a few years when the pond as a whole matures BW isn't an issue but it is something that most Koi keepers have to live with.
No, I'm not. I HAVE noticed in the last few days that my Nitrite levels have fallen, now less than 0.25, so I guess higher Nitrate levels are on their way?
hate to say it , but blanket weed is only ever banished by using RO-ROmix , your water has loads of phos and other crap in it like most tap water .
it has to be the bigest bain in a koi keepers life !!!! after spending years pulling it out by the bin load on a weekly basis, trying every treatment , every filtraion type , the only thing that has worked 100% is the RO mix
