Hi Rachel,
My koi suffer from carp pox & this season has been the worst for me.
Originally I introduced a fish that had it & it has slowly spread to many of them. It is contagious & I believe that my infected fish spread it when it
flashed (scraped itself) on the pond base.
Progressively, as my pond temperature has risen the affected patches have
shrunk with some having disappeared altogether.
Some of my koi have proved to be immune & have remained unaffected for
the past six years.
One of my biggest fish a 50cm/18" Chagoi thankfully seems to have overcome
it & has remained "clean" for the past couple of years. I hope that the rest of
them will follow suit because it can be cosmetically unappealing.
As Gazza said, it is surprising that the dealer cleaned it off your fish.
Most knowledgeable folk advise that it is left strictly alone.
