Default superbead bead filter ?

This is my first time on forum, and fairly new to koi keeping (a few years and several pond builds later) , my question is to anyone who can give any feedback on the superbead bead filter. I have 3500 gallons plus filters, currently running cetus sieve on to nexus eazy 200, any advice or experience will be greatly appreciated.

Hiya and welcome to a great forum, i dont know much about the superbead filter but i do run a econo bead filter and sieve and i can not rate them high enough. the filter did take awhile to mature but now seems really great. i dont think any one can go wrong with using a bead filter. mark

Thanks,
This may sound a bit crazy but what I want to try to achieve is maximum time in between back washing (if on holiday etc) the problem I find with the nexus is you can't leave for more than a few days although the sieve helps. What I am thinking is putting a superbead in between sieve and nexus, I guess nexus would become pure biological and sieve and bead would do all the mechanical, already running pump after sieve with the balance pipe so it's only the cost of the superbead, will this work or will it be a waste of money.

Hi,

I think putting the bead in the mix with the Nexus would be a waste of time effort and money as the Nexus should be able to do what you need on its own.

What size pump are you running on the Nexus?

Showers are very good and work very well and how well depends on the media you put in them. You may well be worth while spending the money on this rather than the bead filter and they do not freeze in the winter

hi gaz, running off the nexus is a eco 12000 through evo 55, got cetus sieve before nexus with eco 16000, what I want is a system that I can leave with confidence for two weeks as I need holidays, the nexus blocks and outer chamber runs dry, thinking of someway to keep nexus clear or should I just swap nexus for another filtration system. Have people who can feed fish staying at house but dare not let them touch anything else. would a sole shower work? Any ideas would be a great help. CHEERS!

Hi Archie,

I know many who run a Nexus and Static K1 and can leave more than a few days why do you think yours is blocking up and what is it that’s in there just food or weed ?

How long has it been running?

I run static K1 and although I do like to clean it often as I can normally I can indeed leave it for a couple of weeks if needed for a holiday.

Yes showers are very good and depending on media they can be left running and are basically maintenance free but depending where you install them they can chill the water and need a good flow so bigger pumps.

Hi this does sound a bit strange;

A Nexus will clog at Blanket Weed time but when dealing with normal fish waste load it should cope easily for a week and two weeks shouldn't be too much of a problem if the fish are on minimal or better still no food.

AND you have a sieve in front that has a 300 micron screen that should stop any heavy waste getting to the N.

I'm just thinking whether you have some obstructions in the pinch points where the water feeds from the easy section to the bio?

First off - Do you back flush the Easy section regularly?

Dave

THANKS FOR THE REPLYS, the nexus has been on pond for about 2 years, the pond is in full sun but don't suffer with blanket weed, I do clean every 2 or 3 days but once left it for a week and it clogged up, maybe to much stock. My worries are that i am on holiday for 3 weeks and it concerns me that something will go wrong. Only fitted sieve 2 weeks ago and has made a big difference, am I over stressing?
