Default filter sponge change?

i have a 700 gallon pond with two HOZELOCK ECOCEL 10000 filters which have sponge filters that will need replacing sometime soon
could i use japmat instead or will i have to replace with that bumpy sponge

I don't know if this is relative but it might help.

Sponge or foam filters need to be made of open cell foam to allow the water to pass through easily. I'd suggest it doesn't matter what you use as long as it works. If you've already got something that you think might do the job, try it out and check it a few days later.

In my foam and flowcore filter, the foam I'm using these days is from a surplus 3" thick mattress topper, it works just fine and has for a few years.
