Well you’re not that far from me as I am North Essex and as you say we are not blessed with dealers all around. I am a bit fussy on where I buy fish from as I have to know their quarantine protocol and how they deal with things before I would even think about buying a fish.
Because of this I only use two dealers which are a fair distance from us but one is within two hours traffic permitting as it is in Reading (A4 Koi) which I think is 100 miles for me the other is in Bristol a tad further. There is also Gary of Gatwick koi who also heat ramps again he is hot on his QT again someone I know does do it.
One of the main reasons is as said above and it’s for my basic piece of mind as these guys heat ramp and carries out strict QT procedures and some fish are even blood sampled.
Could try Selective at Norwich, never been personally but their one of the oldest in the country so must be doing something right, you've also got Hill House Koi in Beccles
Buying koi is a bit subjective, it really depends on how much we want to spend and how far we want to travel.
I've often been disappointed when I've driven quite a way to an aquarist retailer, as the selection has been poor. But some people I know will only buy fish they can watch for a few minutes, which is the ideal situation.
I recently got back into this hobby and ordered a "selection" of ten 4" to 5" koi from here in April.
It was a random selection, they trade on eBay, (I think they've a three thousand plus 100% rating), or on-line, (you can't "visit" them), but I did ring them up first to say I didn't want any "mongrels."
They sent me three Kohakus (one ginrin), three Shusuis, three Sankes a Shiro-Bekko and a Ki-Utsuri. (I'd paid for ten but they sent me eleven, plus a 1kg pack of food gratis). They arrived by next day delivery via a carrier, the driver was very careful with them and I could see he had several other boxes of live koi on his van.
I couldn't find any fault with any of them and they were all as fit as butchers' dogs and they've since pretty much doubled in size.
You can buy individual fish from them on line from a big selection. I'd go back to them again if I wanted more fish.

I don't like them myself, they're pretty bad,
I grieve over them on long winter evenings."

If you ask nicely they will let you pop up to them, they live in leek and are a nice couple.
Nice selection of fish, all israeli for those who will only purchase japanese koi.
Price wise they are very fair for fish, food and equiptment. So thumbs up from me with mitchkoi also.

Gav.
Yes they made that offer to me too Gav, but I got the distinct impression that "they'd rather most people didn't."

Quite a trek from manchester also, when they will ship you them out promptly and safely to your door bud. The fella will talk to you for hours if you let him and will show you around. The woman is the boss though, she does all the pricing and ordering. (like most relationships I suppose)

Yes, she sounds very efficient when she's on the phone.

I've used Mitchkoi twice and am very pleased with my fish. A kohaku I had in March has really grown also had a Chagoi from them recently too
