With the right media and flow rate and good temp they are the bees knees i only have a 1500galon pond with 8 koi and last year they ate about 5kg of food between then some day up to 12 feed a day and with no bad water quality but i also run a vor-tec 1600 with K1 conversion. This is not the time of year to add bakki showers as it is still far to cold and it just ripps the heat out of the water but on hot day works the other way around, Im making a new even bigger shower for this season and will be putting the step by step instruction on }o0;> | Koi Forum |Index page| Koi Fish, Koi Pond and Japanese Koi Carp @ UkKrazyKoi.com if you want to follow my progress but it wont be till near the end of march

great post on the DIY Bakki.

Personally, I was thinking of purchasing something like these:

Oak wood Waterbutt - Tesco.Direct
Decorative Water Butt & Stand 220L Oak Effect, 5037151008437

And filling them with Crystal Bio, and making DIY trickle filters, based on the ROTO's:

Roto™ Shower Tube™

It will look alot nicer also!

trickle tower under 500gph ,bakki 500gph +

bakkis all the way , you wont find a better way to filter your pond , and the DIY jobs work just aswell as the shop bought ones

the only problem with useing K1 , is it does have a tendency to block up !! though i do love the stuff , you might be better going crystal bio or biopore .

the trick with bakkis is to get the turn over right , the smaller the pond the faster the turn over , on a 1500 gallon pond , i would aim for 3-4 times per hour min . also the faster turn over is based on fish stocks .

i used to run my 5000gln pond on 5-8 X's per hour , i now run a 12,000gln pond , with a 12ft 4 tear bakki , with a flow rate of 130,000lph
