Hi, I'm new to the forum and have posted an image of an insect found in the vortex of my filter system. Really looking for help to identify this creature as there were around 15 of them in amongst the brushes. The insects are about 25mm in length and seem to be housed inside hollow straw tubes.
Had the pond for about 15 years and I've never seen these before.
Pond is 3500 gallon 6ft deep with Vortex and 6 chamber filter. 16 fish ranging from 10" to 39"
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dave

Think you will find its a caddis fly larva. They make their homes from litter on the bottom of whatever water source they live in and i think they emerge to leave their "homes" and hatch as caddis flies.
looks like a caddis fly larvae is your pond pump fed
seems like these have got sucked in to the filter they are harmless to koi and yourself usually live on the pond bottom
