Ive just brought a easy pod from evolution aqua as and upgrade from my oasis pond 50 filter but am debating whether or not to run the outlet from the pod into my old filter or straight into the pond, I will be running my skimmer though the old filter anyway, I am just unsure how polished the water will look from just the pod into the pond.
My pond is 1000gal with 6 koi (10") and about 20 goldfish.

it will look something like this i have the bigger nexus 300 as my only form of filteration 6ft deep stick with your plan of the old filter on the skimmer and pod on the other
