i have no uv in my filter but i have a uv inline but i also have a heater there too.
you will need a uv unless you like the green water and not being able to see the fish lol.
can you draw in paint a simple plan of your pond i will help you set it up

no green water does not sound pleasant,
here is my basic design, sorry for the poor drawing.
this is going on my patio, the 2 walls at 6.2 feet are already there and they are 2 foot high, i am going to brick a curved wall to join the 2. my only worry is pond liner creases with this shape??
i will then mark out my pond and the cut the shape of my pond into my patio and remove the patio and hardcore from underneath, then dig another 2 foot down to give a depth of 4 foot and a pond which holds 3500 litres approx
as far as the filter box and external pump are concerned, i have no idea on make or models. i m going to my local aquatic centre tomorrow to have a look and get a better understanding of filtration systems.
where the pump and filter are situated it is aflower bed, i am hoping to cover them as much as possible with the use of plants.
Jusu curious would it be cheaper to construct the pond with render? and would it give a nicer appearace?
note flow control point and flow direction no dead points of water in corners
thank you, how many fish do you think i should stock ths pond with?
and when a new pond is filled with water how long do you need to wait befoer adding the fish, i have always kept tropical fish and i no you should always wait for bacteria to form before introducing fish.
is a skimmer nessacery? just as i am trying to keep costs down? or is it some thing i could do with out for now but add at a later date?
you can get away with adding one later but they take the rubbish off the surface.
i would stock very lightly two at the start then when the filters are coping stock bit by bit to keep costs down buy young 1 year old fish which you can watch grow
can you reccomend me the best filter and pump i could get for £180
i have just been offered a heissner fpu 8000 which contains filter, pump and UV for £165 at my local fish centre as it is the last one and they are no longer stocking this make due to the company moving back to germany? Is this a good make of filtration system? also the man said that this pump couldnt be used with the bottom drain and that my best bet would be to install a bottom drain separtly and only use it when i need to flush the bottom of my pond.
i no i have seen the exact same heissner filtration set for £140 but its £20 delivery so its not alot different, personally id rather buy from my local to make it easier to return products should they be faulty.
I will take some pictures tonight of the sight and get some step by step pictures, the spade will be coming out tomorrow
