Ok, having scrapped the idea of a DIY filter system due to finding some filters at good prices, I have now brought what I hope will be a half decent setup over my current Bio-Force 12000.
For starters, my pond is around 5500 litres, in direct sun light for around 5-6 hours of the day, bad practice I know

, and medium to growing stocked.
What I have brought, which I’m hoping you guys are not going to tell me is completely wrong, is....
1) 35-40 gallon vortex filter (4" inlet and outlets)
2) Large single chamber filter box, with sediment collection at bottom (around 50" length, 25" width, 25" depth)
3) Medium size filter unit, with 3 chambers (current config is brush section, filter foam in middle, and media last section)
My plan is to use my Titan 8000 pump (I am looking to get a swimming pool pump eventually) with 40mm pipe, this will travel around 4-5m in length before joining an 80mm pipe for 0.5m then a 4" (110mm) pipe for another 0.5m. This will then enter the vortex filter.
Oulet from vortex filter will enter the large single chamber box which I will fill with brushes, inlet and outlet will be with 4" (110mm) piping.
This will then enter the 3 chamber box which first section with be a single row of brushes, flowing into the middle section which I will use Jap Matting, and finally in to the last small section which I will fill with alfagrog.
Outlet with be 4" (110mm) pipe which I will spilt in to two 80mm pipes giving to reentry points back in to my pond to aid circulation.
I intend to use my bio-force 12000 in between the pump and the vortex, as this has the 13w UV tube in it, until I have the money for a better UV. I will strip out the Bio-Force 12000 of its filter foam, so its acts as just a UV (will leave the K1 in it though)
I guess my question is, does this sound ok. Any suggestion if a different layout would be better?
Cheers
Russ
