Default Setting up a Koi tank..

I have kept both tropical and cold water fish in the past but I have just started to set up a new tank and I would like to go for Koi this this time. The tank is a 200 ltr and at this stage it has nothing in it, so I have blank canvas so to speak. I would very much appreciate anyone's advice on what I can do to keep and maintain a heathy environment for the Koi that I am yet to purchase.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for hijacking this thread but I am also in the same position as the OP.

I have a large 7 ft wide aquarium that holds 120 gallons approx and would like to make the transition from tropical to coldwater.

the tank has an excellent Eheims external filter and we would like to consider trying Koi for the first time!

Is this possible and if so what would the recommendation be regarding koi numbers?

Apologies in advance if this is a bad idea so please say. I work on the principle that if you don't know you ask someone who does !!

Looking forward to constructive recommendations etc

Regards

really its not a good idea but i would consider you need twice the amount of filterage on the tank to keep koi in it.
i have a jewel rio 400 in my front room as well as my 13x6x 6 ft deep pond outside in which the past two years i have kept fry in so it is possiable

double filterage
and light stocking say 5 or six koi

BUILD A POND !!!
a MINIMUM of 2,000 gallons !
Koi do NOT belong in a tank .............
It is IMPOSSIBLE to keep in a " healthy environment "
they can grow to over a metre in length !!!
Keeping Koi in a tank is on a par with keeping a Greyhound in a 12th floor flat and never taking it out for a walk !!!
You wouldn't do it with a Greyhound .............
so WHY with Koi ???
