Default cloverleaf blanket answer

HI i'm new to the site and need a bit of advice........Has anyone used cloverleaf blanket answer.I put some in our pond ( about half of the recommended amount on advice) on Sunday and since then 2 sterlets have died 1 koi and my two tench now seem like they are on their way out as well. Its a relatively new pond - only finished it at the end of May-6000 litres and I check the water once a week. Before putting this stuff in all levels were okay and so were the fish!!! Have tonight emptied 1/2 of the water out and am currently replacing it-panic has set in.

Your welcome Gavin I havent had blanket weed since . Those Algae pads are a lot cheaper just drop in your filter and change every 2 or 3 months.I do have a slight green bottom on my pond but my water is clear i can see the bottom. The breeder I get my koi from told me green is good so Ive left it alone .The pond is in full sun from sun rise to sun set at the mo till I get my pagola up then I will cover it with greenhouse shade netting that will keep most of the sun out . Good luck with your pond you will lots of help in the forum there a very friendly crowd. Dave.

Hi Gavin,

I went to the BKKS Koi show at Newark 3-4 weeks back and heard some interesting views about Cloverleaf's Blanket Answer. Everyone agreed it kills blanketweed, but the general consensus was, after a few doses it leaves a sticky tar like residue on the sides and bottom of the pond which doesn't come off. Personally, I didn't like the way it turns the pond milky for a week. I ended up using Evolution Aqua's product. 3 weeks later, no more b'weed. The down side is, it seems to dissolve it into microscopic particles which are a b****r to filter out.

I hope the fish loss is now over. I lost one the other week, it had been behaving strangely, lying on the bottom a playing dead, then coming up to feed. It started losing weight and after 5-6 weeks finally went. I put it down to old age, I'd had him 7-8 years and it was quite old when I took him in. Sad still the same.

Rob

Thanks for the replys. Can you claim any money back from the manufacturers? I've roughly worked out i've lost around a £100's worth of fish since I put the cloverleaf in

Hi Gavin, I have not used the product you mention but I would very much doubt that they would leave themselves open to being sued for loss of fish.

I would guess that they have somewhere on the packaging or info with the product, remarks warning you that with incorrect dosage it may be harmful to your fish.

I used one product a while ago to kill off algae, the product I used had warnings on the packaging, and also warned of soft or hard water implications, I was very careful and used less than half the dose, that was stated as safe, this caused me no problems, or fish loss but I doubt I would use chemicals for algae again as I don't believe the risk is worth it.

If you do try to claim for your loss good luck

sorry to hear of your loss, i have used cloverleaf blanket just once with good results. I did use more airation than usual, it would be interesting to know what the water peramater where when added and after such as PH etc. Did you feed through the treatment? i stopped for the week. I did experiance that a lot of filter cleaning was required. running an eazy pod on 10000L so at max capacity - required cleaning everyday to remove residue.

I think it says on the side of the bottle that you cant overdose?

Anybody have any idea what kind of koi this is? I've looked around on the web but couldn't figure out what it is.
