Advised to start with a water change for quality issues and will treat with malachite green tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Rep Power: 0 | Re: fish that wont eat - the outcome things goin from bad to worse. four more losses to date and the rest are lethargic now too. Kujacku and shiro utsuri both died friday night. Healthykoi came back out saturday and checked more fish. same parasites as before but not as many, sanke had another course of antibiotics but on examination of gills one of them was full of fungus. She took along time to come round from the aneasthetic and was quite stressed so they didn't salt dip her. Our platinum ogon was next to be checked as it had damaged it's cheek and dorsal fin, and this too has fungus in a gill. the last fish that they got out was our hi utsuri that had been gasping, this also had fungus in it's gills, they salt dipped both fish but the utsuri got too stressed for a full dose.
The sanke and the utsuri both died overnight and now it's not looking good for the rest.
really misrable, just watching and waiting. |

Rep Power: 1 | Re: fish that wont eat - the outcome Sorry to hear about Jack.
My strong advice would be to sort the water out urgently.
Ammonia and Nitrite need to be Zero all the time.
I would put KUSURI SUPER C IN THE FILTER AND IN THE POND IMEDIATELY.
This will "clean" the media and render any mulm, uneaten food and sludge to a neutral state where it is not producing Ammonia, very quickly.in 3kg bags
Also use Kusuri Klear bacteria, in 4litre bottles.
The cleansing effect of the super c will enable the klear to colonise the media,
also pour klear around the perimeter of the pond, it will colonise the walls.
(the reason I use Kusuri, it's virtually impossible to overdose ! )
The kh needs to be above 6 ( forget gh, it's the kh that's important for now,
use NT Labs KH UP, DO NOT OVERDOSE, kh should be raised gradually.
The ph of 7.2 is fine, BUT IT MUST REMAIN STABLE, A DROP OF POINT 4 IS ENORMOUS AND EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE FOR THE KOI,
now it's dropped the emphasis is keeping it at a stable level at 7.2
( 7.2 is low, but this will help the ammonia, but must not fluctuate.)
Raising the kh will help, but if possible put some Lithaqua media in bags, or crushed oyster shells in bags, these will both buffer the ph, i.e. keep it stable.
Put a litre of kusuri klear in a bucket of pond water and pour over the lithaqua / oyster shells to colonise.
If you don't have enough space for these bags in the filters, tie lengths of washing-line rope to them and lower into the pond !
( buckets should be for pond use only, only 99p at Focus for big heavy duty black buckets, that way there is no risk of introducing detergent or God forbid bleach ! )
Please note, all of this is to help get the water parameters correct asap, and keep them correct.
I would NOT think of treating the koi themselves unless I knew for certain what I was treating them for ! You could do more harm than good !
Forget feeding, it will only add to the Ammonia, which is killing them.
A brief Ammonia small spike will cause the koi to flick and flash and jump, as they are literally in agony, their gills burning with it !
Prolonged Ammonia will make the koi very lethargic with clamped dorsel fins and slowly poison them to death, it needs bringing down to zero or you will likely lose them all.
I hope this doesn't come across as being a clever sh.t, or lecturing, I can assure you I'm very concerned and trying to help you save your koi.
Good luck. |

Yes, five weeks ago we got 5 new fish from a local dealer (well known and well used by us in the past) these were fresh in from Japan. We have a feeling that these fish plus the ammonia spike were the problem.
