as i said horses for courses, each pond is different and people have different ideas , and not having run a pod before , but you are best to ask around koi keepers and lots of advise and have a plan before you start. i have used two bottom drains both airrated lids, both have their own pipes and each have a 10ft 5 bay with vortex, but i only use 1 sequence quarter horsepower to return the waterback to the pond vier two return 1 to the middle of the wall and one to the veggie filter , each return has its own 55w uv,and my pond is 7ft deep and i can see a pin on the bottom.though my veiwing windows i can see the screws on my bottom drain seal, anyway good luck with it mate

Thumbs up

Dan, Double Doitsu has put up 2 good answers:
1 re: his set up
2 re: small fish ...... er indoors "wanted a tiny yellow one " just for her !
the damned thing spent more time living in the bottom drains and vortex than the pond !!!
Got fed up of keep putting it back umpteen times a day, eventually just fed it in the vortex.
( growing into a nice Yamabuki Ogon over 12 inch long now ! )
As Double Doitsu says, you WILL lose any small fish / fry with a standpipe
when you flush !
Peter.

ps alright Mark ! last time I tried to get you was a pm, and you had run out,
contacted Col who put more pm's on then it ALL went down !!!
Oy and less of the mare ! a mare is female ! crazy ? very likely !
how's the fishing in next doors pond ? hee ! hee !

including the filters and veg filter 9000 , but the pond is 8000 gallons , still trying to think of a way of making the filter box easier to get to and work on , i put some lids over it made from 18mm osb board but they are so heavy and the miss cant really move them so just thinking about building a roof over them but it all time , we only moved in together in march and the house is still up side down and i have spent every day in the garden and spent about 20.000 building it all , now i have just been made redundant so the cash flow has suddenly stopped so got to be carefull
