I have read about this company and was down that way a couple of weeks ago for a weekend at Sandy Balls i wanted to pop in there but didnt get a chance to go there, (her in doors). They breed fish much like cuttlebrook do from jap stock. As retailers too i would guess the fish they breed must be reasonable as it dosnt take long for word to get around if a company sells rubbish fish. As you are thinking of getting a box of 1-2 inch fish it would be a bit of pot luck as to how they turn out but they obviously survived a couple of culling stages to get that far, but for 40 quid for 50 fish you cant go wrong out of that lot a percentage could turn out good and you will easy get your money back if you sold on the rest of the not so good fish.

Shiro Muji is when a Koi loses it's pattern, just turns into a white worthless koi.
A Kokaku I purchased ( tategoi ! ) was being grown on for me,
the dealer contacted to tell me and gave me a FULL refund, held in credit,
which was very honest of him, and also lucky it happened BEFORE I took delivery !
As with anything in life, I strongly believe you get what you pay for,
the chances of getting a single good koi out of those is minimal,
ok if just stocking a lake, but of no interest to someone just trying to build a collection of good quality koi, with a capacity of 20 -30 adult koi !
Peter.

I think it is more common with the Go - Sanke varieties ( Kohaku, Taisho Sanke, Showa ) but also with other Koi with shiroji ( white skin / scales )
such as Shiro Utsuri, Shiro Bekko etc.
At some point at the beginning of a bloodline, a Magoi ( black Koi ) and / or a White Magoi, will have been used, it is just those genes which cause it.
In Japan, the top breeders cull ( kill ) 80 - 90 % of ALL fry !!! in various stages in the first few months !
An Oyagoi set ( parents ) can fertilise up to 300,000 eggs in a single spawning
BUT only a very few escape the first cull, let alone the subsequent culls.
I'm sure British breeders are nowhere near as ruthless, prefering to sell them in bulk rather than culling,
whereas in fact they should actually be culling an even higher %
as our British water does NOT suit growing and developing Koi.
A bloodline which does well in Japanese water is UNLIKELY to do well in British water !
Peter.
