hi tone .
before you go slinging in a kilo of food a week you need to make sure you have the filters to handle it and a good cleaning regime as a small body of water is much harder to maintain and things do change quickly . as for the temp 20 degrees is fine but as koiman said for optimum growth you should go for 22 to 26 but mind your water quality .
cheers paul

Hi tone
If You want small Koi to grow these are the important factors You need.
Heat to 26 to 28 degrees this is the best temperatures to get a koi matabalism running perfect.
Loads of air, this will aid in water quality and increase growth by atleast 30%
Good filtration
Good quality food
Regular water checks
And the one thing that I have found to increase My Koi growth is current. This keeps the koi on the move all the time, it increases there matabalism rate, so they are always healthy and very hungry.
This is where that good filtration comes into play.
I have had some terrific results useing the above. Last year I grew a 5 inch fish to 18 inch in twelve months

Thanks for that justin..The filtration is excellent..well it seems ok anyway.. and i've also got good airation going into the water as you said..i've just upped the temp slightly to 22 then i'll up it another 2 degrees the day after..then another 2 after that if thats ok.?

What would you guys class as a good quality food for these fish? basicly what do you use??

Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Tone I would say 2 degrees a day is a little too much. I personaly would not raise it more than a degree a day. There are many very good foods on the Market. The problem You have is the size of pellets. You will want the smallest pellets for Your Koi as they are only tiny. This Year I have had great sucsess with a4koi growth food. This stuff makes em grow like mad. I think the pellet size would be to large for Your Koi. I have also had great results with Kusuri growth paste. This allows you to make small pellets.. Contact a4koi at www.a4koi.com He might be able to get his stuff, in a smaller size.
Hope this is of some help
Justin
