Default Blanket weed

Hi all. The sun is shining the ponds are looking great the Koi are feeding like mad everything is great or is it. The return of the dreaded blanket weed strikes again. I have a different way of dealing with it than most. I have a pair Sailfin Pleco`s` in my pond both around about 12 inches long they love the stuff. I also dose the pond with Verisco also all natural and that normaly keeps it at bay. Just wondered how everyone else tackles the problem.

Hello Discusdan, yes my pond is heated through out the winter to 19 degrees and they seem fine and have grown loads they were only tiny when I put them in. When I do the pond extension I might add a Grass Carp as well as they love to it Blanket weed. Do you get a problem with your bottom drain getting blocked with all that dead blanket weed floating about.

Hi Justin,

Pond Balance does the trick for me - works very well in my pond. I think blanket weed treatment is something for the individual, but if anyone is struggling out there and hasn't tried Pond Balance its worth a try if a little expensive.

Cheers

Paul.

Hi mate,
I had serious blanket weed problem and as you i asked the same question on this forum. I had pond balance suggested to me, it is a little pricie but works great. Bit slow of the mark but by the third dose in the first month started to see results fast, a month later by the time the next dose was due it had just about sorted the problem, about 4 months down the line i am now adding half of the suggested dose and only every six weeks instead of every month and still no signs of the dreaded weed. So it does get cheaper !!!!. The only problem i did find that it soon blocked both my filter and skimmer with decaying weed, so keep your eye on them. And also do shop around for it as i have bought it from 2 different koi dealers for the same price but last weekend i found it in another dealers for £7 yes £7 pound cheaper.

All in all a thumbs up to pond balance.......

Lee.
