Default Compatible Fish?...

Hi

I just wondered, I have never found a comprehensive list of compatible fish for koi ponds, here are a few I can think of, off the top of my head:

- Koi
- Butterfly Koi
- Orfe
- Comets & Some goldfish
- Tench
- Common Carp
- Grass Carp
- Shubunkins

What other types\species of fish can be kept in a standard garden pond, im talking a good size pond from 1000 Gallons Plus??

dont forget sturgeon aswell almost all river fish can be placed in a pond with the exceptions of pike, perch, eels as theyll eat the rest. if you decide to get this sort of fish they will keep you koi from getting tame as they tend to be alot more nervous of humans as theyer not used to the enviorment like koi are. they become tame but not as easily as koi. they will make your koi nervous of you as they tend to be a bit skitish when feeding . trial and error is the only way we learn in this game but from my experience i woudnt have anything but koi b/koi , carp, tench and sturgeon. thats only my opinion.
i would reccomend an orfe though as they seem to be the first fish in the pond to notice danger when its around. i hope this helps and many will probably disagree but every one has there own opinions about what you should keep in a koi pond .
cheers,....vicne

Ok, apart from maybe a sturgeon or Grass Carp,
Why would you guys want to keep anything other than Koi?

Pike are definately a NO NO!

ive got 2 tench in mine as they keep close to the bottom and keep it very clean of food thats been missed by the koi. barbel also do the same but they should have a good flow of water to keep them fit as they tend to get a deformed spine if there not in a decent flow.

Cool stuff, cheers guys, gives me a better insight into things, I thought that barbel would eat koi?

Perhaps they will eat smaller koi

I think the pike is a definate no no!

We too have some tench and they hang around the bottom, only see em in the summer
