Reputation Level: | To Pre filter or not to pre filter? I am thinking of instaling a pre filtering stage to my pond, I was given the idea by shevyrabit when he posted his filter setup for water declorification and started wandering if he had this as a pre filter? So did some looking around and thought about putting 2 filters with 10 micron particle filters in each, to pre filter as much of the crap out before getting to my blagdon 6000 filter. And thought this might give better water quality going back into the pond, my bio filter wont have to work so hard, and will need less maintenance, as less muck will be getting in. Would probs just need to clean the particle filters out once a week or something?
Would like to know what you guys think.
Ta

Matt | Hi Matt
My pre filter is a big Vortex at one end of the pond with a 4 bay. The pods I was talking about are for topping up the pond after I clean the filters and for running a trickle into my growing on tank. I have just bought a Sieve for the other end but at the moment the pond is not not clear at all. And I think the main problem is full sunlight all day.

Shevy | My pond is nice and clear, and clean the filter out once a fortnight. But usually the top is full of bits and gunk, so just got me thinking when I seen your declor setup that maybe I could do something like that for separating solids instead, before getting to my filter. Just a pipe idea at the mo shev but have been pondering it since I seen that pic of yours. |
