Bakki Shower

I noticed a link on this site the other day on how to build your own bakki shower. This got me looking around for more info and i came across this link

Most of these guys are using Bakki showers as there only filter, I was thinking could i get away with building my own then having the bottom drain going straight to the shower via a sequence 1/4 hp pump. I would insulate the shower during the colder months and cover the pond also during winter.

The pond is only 1500 gallons and partly shaded.

I also wondered why the home builds have the bottom cut out and then a mesh put in there. Could i drill the holes instead.

yes ,yes and yes

on most serious koi ponds you'l find a bakki , even if its for spring, summer, autumn .

you can run bakkis straight from the bottom drain , and you can drill the holes as thats what i do , as for pumps , sequence are not known for there great head pumping , there are several better options for pumps for a bakki , super fish , aquamax eco, lifetech , jebo eco , tetra ofx , to name a few , what sort of flow are you thinking of ?? also , what do you have in mind for a bakki , also what media ??

I went out and got myself a five tier crate off ebay yesterday for the bargain price of £5. They are strong 54cms Long x 17cms Deep x 25cms Wide. The base has like a triangular pattern and i was thinking of drilling inside each of those. As for the media i think bacteria house is a little to expensive. I found the chinese version but cant remember the name of it, the price of that was quite reasonable. Any advice here would be appreciated as I'm on a budget. As for pump and flow I could also do with some advice here. I was thinking that turning the 1500gallons over every hour would be enough. Out of the pumps you recomended which ones are the most efficent and durabl

pump wise i'd go for aquamax eco they are the mutt's infact these are equal to sequence pumps

The aquamax eco look pritty good, do you use yours externally or do you put it in the pond?

I havent got 1 but wish i did instead of the bloody hozelock

my mate bought his aquamax day after i got mine ...IF i run out of cash on my build and cant get a sequence on ebay then i'll definatley opt for the aquamax ..in/out your choice ..have a long look on the internet as prices vary significantly...theres a few forum members who'll agree aquamax are an equal to sequence...hope this helps

Thanks for the help not sure if i'll have a spare £300 though, the reason i was looking at the sequence was they seem to go for about £80 on ebay. I'll keep my eye out for the aquamax as well as i have not started digging the hole yet and so may drop on one before i get to the pump stage.

mmmmmmmm well what i say is be very carefull with buying a second hand pump off ebay, i brought a brand new sequence and a second sequence off ebay and the second hand one has packed up already after just 6 weeks of running. i have learnt a lesson for sure. the second hand cost me £100. but what i will say is the running costs are really low so i will be getting it repaired for sure.

Thanks for the advice mark, I think with ebay its just luck of the draw really. There are people who get rid of things cause they know they are starting to wear and those that have a genuine reason for the sale. I will have to see how my finances are nearer the time but i think i will probably have to gamble on ebay.
