Reputation Level: | DIY Filter Hi All,
I'm new to this forum but not new to fish keeping, had tropicals and marine for over 30 years and had a small 1000 gallon pond for the last 3 years.
The time has come to do a larger pond around 2000 - 2500 Gallons for the purpose of keeping Koi only in.
I have a spare 80 Gallon fish tank (52 x 24 x 18") would this be suitable if modified to use as a filter? I was thinking of adding dividers in the give a first section that I could fill with sponges, to feed into a second section filled with media with a 3rd small section to use for the water to exit the filter back to the pond, there is already a hole drilled in the base that could be used for this.
The filter would be positioned above pond height in my garage(the pond will back onto this wall) and the water pumped from the pond base upto the filter, the return will be gravity fed.
I have a load of the bio balls that are used in tropical setup are these suitable for use for Koi filters or not? The media section of the filter would be 36 x 24 x 15" minimum and would probably be split into multiple sections to ensure all media is exposed to the water.
Well enough waffle for now what do you think any use or not?
thanks

Reputation Level: | OK thanks, just an idea thought it might save some cash.
Would it be of any use as a prefilter? If so how would you reccommend setting it up?
thanks
JFK

Reputation Level: | you could stack it full of brushes this will trap the solids and alot of fines [no small small fines] which will ease the load on the main filter |

Reputation Level: | Get a nexus A nexus would cope with your pond. They are very easy to clean and do not take up a lot of room. Not all that expensive in the long run.
I can do a great delivered price on one of these.
PM me or see my website at Border Aquatics
Nexus should be cheaper than the advertised price.
