Hi I like your idea for home made filter I had a similar idea using wheelie bins. But have hit a snag, I was browsing a koi website and the resident expert said you should never use wheelie bins for filters as they are toxic and will kill fish. So i researched what they are made of, apparently they are made of the same type of plastic as milk cartons. So am unsure as to try it. Can anyone shed some light on the subject.

A friend of mine used 2 wheely bins for years, both filled with pea gravel, never had any probs.
