Reputation Level: | K1 biological filter media My filter system is a four chamber set up,all the chambers are square, primary mech , secondary mech, biological, then pump return. To get the media to work perfectly requires some sort of pressurised system, something to keep the media together yet able to move about.
I have a piece of white pvc cladding holding the K1 at least 4 " below the surface, that is a lot of pressure with 2 airstones blasting out as well.
I am looking for other ideas and any are very welcome.
ps pics to follow soon

The top photo, once you put your head on one side are the filter chambers, primary nearest.
Pic of the bio chamber with bricks to hold slate on any gaps at the edges and to hold the pvc under water. The good thing is it works well.

Reputation Level: | can i ask why you want the k1 under the water ???is it to stop it traveling from chamber to chamber ?? and do you have pipe work from chamber to chamber ?
looking at your chamber's could you not , have a settlement chamber first , then mech chamber , and then 2 chamber's of k1 ??

Reputation Level: | Hi Steve,
yes all the chambers are connected with 75 mm pipe. The chamber nearest is settlement, then secondary, both have got filter sponge before the outlet into the next (better pics needed as there is a reflection in the water in the second). The bio chamber is pressurised because without the cover, the force of air just push s the K1 to the side and it just piles up above the water which is no good. K1 needs to be tumbled for it to be self cleaning and work to its optimum level. Here's a link which is brill for design and how and why it works. http://www.happykoi.co.za/1.%20all%2...n_overview.htm

Reputation Level: | what your describing there (k1 around the side's ) is what i got until i started useing an air tube , which has several fix's on it , i'l find the link !!
i used pond plant pots , and removed the biy where i wanted the pipe to fix , used a tank joint , and the k1 cant go any futher .
now i'm totaly over to trickle !! i'd never go back !!

Reputation Level: | I did think about trickle when i was building, and now you mentioned it i can do that in the bio chamber, just have to change the water inlet to the top, it's at the bottom to keep the K1 in. mmm
Will i ever finish it completely ? i doubt it.
Has anyone ever finished completely ?

Reputation Level: | Talking about 'upin' I've been giving my recent refurbishment thoughts a bit more thought.
My pond is almost at ground level and my latestest thought is why don't I build up on top, perhaps another three feet???
That thought caused a couple more thoughts, which are, how much does it cost to fibreglass the whole shebang?
And will it be too physically demanding?
