Default Shingle going Green

Hi All
I have built a Veggie filter just out side the pond and the water drops into the pond it's been running for about 6 weeks with marginal plants growing well in it but the gravel is going green and I am worried that it's going into the pond is this ok or should I do something about it.

Hiya Shevy

Think that there will be nothing you can do about it.

Only question would be why you need gravel in there at all?

Hi Dave
Was trying to get rid of the nitrate by using plants in the veggie.

Nitrate - They do a good job at that but the catch can come after a year or so when there is a load of muck in there hence the query onthe gravel.

If you can get plants in there that will gobble Nitrate without the need for bedding?

Something like cress would be ideal, ive always fancied having a stab at chinese lettuce on the basis that the fish get through 3 or 4 a week at £1.18a throw.
