Default Pond plants & things

Just a quick question,
I know that koi like to eat the plants and the two don't always get on, but I am going with it any way, but I have a question?

What should I plant my plants in as they are bare roots, will normal soil do or compost, moss?

Ta
Matt

try and find the border , and marginal plants that can grow in gravel , like water hyacinth ect ,

koi do like to munch on plants , so you will have an uphill struggle , my pond is covered in a fish house , and i grew tomatoes around the edge , , the stakes got loose over time , and it toppled over into the pond and they stripped it bare fruits and all

If you are using the plants to remove nitrates, water cress worked well for me,it grows quite quickly and the bonus is you can use it in salads = bonus.

i have, in my veg filter an arum lily which when flowers really adds to the pond, and grows fast, water hyacinth - small - i start this off floating in the veg filter for a couple of weeks to give it a chance to grow a bit - large - these i let float in the pond from the start , this plant is a very fast grower, my koi also like being fed shrimp in these plants, it keeps them busy and lets everyone get some.
an umbrella palm - (reed) - another which grows fast.
these are the main ones i use.
faster growing plants help with water quality best, but don't forget photosynthesis most plants use oxygen at night, early morning is the worst time so keep an eye on this!
Try to get them from somewhere you trust as plants could possibly play as a host to many different nasties.

Hi Tricky
Yes good post but just want a few plants to hide a few things like that big vortex and 4 bay filter and to help the water get rid of that bad stuff because you know it's coming when you start feeding in the summer
