I used to have a european eagle owl that thing was pretty good at stopping any unwanted intruders when i had her out in the garden ie cats and heron, the thing stood 2ft high with talons as big as your hand, i kid you not. Im now thinking of getting a female Harris hawk which i will let go after any unwanted intruders.

European Eagle Owl just to give you an idea of the size of these huge birds, hence no cat or Heron problem, every koi owner should have one, they will take a small sheep too
